Before arriving at this page, we hope you have found the time to read the report - A vision and strategy for urban transport in Burgess Hill over the next 30 years.
This report was the result of work by a dedicated group of residents, trying to imagine how we would be living our lives in the foreseeable future and against the background of Burgess Hill being a much bigger town by then. There are 30,000 people now and 45,000 expected by 2026. Work on the new Town Centre for Burgess Hill will start in 2012/13 and has already been four years in the planning.
Transport, it is believed, will be the key factor in making the new communities - 6,000 to 8,000 homes - work as sustainable places to live. How Burgess Hill lives day to day, will be determined by how we are able to move around our Town. Children going to school safely, people working locally, or commuting out and others travelling in to new offices and manufacturing units, families meeting and shopping, people using leisure facilities.
Try and imagine this scale of activity taking place in 30 years time. Not an easy picture to visualise, especially what sort of transport will be available. We have got as far as we can and now it is up to others to join in - we don't have a monopoly on good ideas.
The questionnaire is designed to get the debate out into the public arena and discover if there are radical future transport solutions that we have not considered. We are looking for solutions, as we know most of the problems, so please let us have your thoughts and ideas and we will get them considered and incorporated. When we get enough information, we will report back to you and with the idea of trying to set up a forum for taking our collective solutions onto the next stage.
